Weeding and revegetation
The following are our current regular weeding and revegetation groups. We are always in need of members and volunteers for a variety of projects, even if it is just an hour every now and then.
Stumers Dunes Bush Regeneration
An incredibly friendly and diverse group, every Thursday morning (Summer 7:30-10.30, otherwise 8:30-11:30) we meet at the picnic table at the beach access north of the Coolum Caravan Park in the Lions Park area (look for the banner over the table). Mostly we bag Asparagus Fern, Mother of Millions, Corky Passion Vine, and we poison Pepper and Umbrella trees and now gidgee gidgee vine. Occasionally we plant natives in bare areas under the supervision of Nick from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Contact Bill (I am the poisoner) Matthews on (07) 5446 4916 or Peter Brown on (07) 5446 5819 … or just coo-ee if you can’t see us!
Yinneburra Bush Regeneration
Volunteers meet at the end of Yinneburra Street (off Yerranya Row) in Yaroomba most Thursdays at 8.30 am. Gloves are essential. We provide weed bags and tools (or bring your own favourite tools) to remove Corky Passion Vine, Asparagus Fern and many other invasive weeds. We also monitor the health and map the location of Pandanus Trees. School groups regularly join us for revegetation work using seedlings from the Coolum Community Native Nursery.
Contact Leigh, or Silva on (07) 5446 5549.
Lions Park/Stumers Creek Watercourse Project
Every Monday – 8.00-11.00am and Thursdays 8.30am-11.00am, the Watercourse Warriors meet at Stumers Creek Road in parking area approximately 50 metres from the turnoff from David Low Way. Our small group welcomes volunteers to work at weed removal along the 500 metre long banks of the watercourse, and/or to maintain our Botanical Gardens area and keep it weed-free. For those wanting to wet their feet (gumboots de rigeur) there is the continuing battle to eradicate or at least control the invasive aquatic weed, Mud Plantain.
Our morning tea sessions are spent telling stories and sharing laughter, enjoying each other’s company as well as that of our mascot canine, Theo, the Golden Retriever (who always needs a thorough washdown, afterwards).
Contact Linese on 5446 5116 or Linese@netbay.com.au for further details.
