May 2017

After the very successful Specks of Sand – Community Science and Decision-making forum on 13 May, participants requested that the presentations be made available to the wider audience. These can now be found under Presentations on the Local Info tab above.

The next Combined Groups Working Bee will be held on Thursday 1 June, meeting at Marcoola Beach Access 106 (southern end of Marcoola Esplanade, about 200m south of  Felix Parry Park and North Marcoola shopping village) and commencing at 8am. Gloves, tools and morning tea provided. All welcome!

The next Management Committee meeting will also be held on 1 June, at Coolum Community Native Nursery, 157 Warran Road Yaroomba, commencing 1.30pm. All members welcome.

Its that time of year again. We are asking for submissions of photos for our 2018 Coolum and North Shore Coast Care Calendar. The calendar will focus on the beauty of nature in the surrounding region, with a focus on local flora, fauna and landscapes found in the area between the Noosa and Maroochy Rivers, and west to the Bruce Highway. Last year our calendars were sent across the world to over 20 countries.

Please submit photos by Friday 30 June. All those whose photos are used will receive a credit on the photo page and a free calendar. If you would like to submit a photo or would like further information, please contact calendar@coolumcoastcare.org.au.

A magnificent coastal icon of our headlands and dunes, the Pandanus tree, is the focus of a Unity Water sponsored project to revisit the impacts of an introduced pest, the leafhopper, devastating many of these trees on the Sunshine Coast.

This project also offers two free training and awareness workshops for the public, to be held on 26 May in Tickle Park, Coolum and on 27 May at Power Memorial Park, Mudjimba.
