February 2016

Coolum and North Shore Coast Care has registered a site for Clean Up Australia Day, Sunday 6 March 2016, from 8am to 10.30am.  The clean up will take place at Twin Waters – meeting at 8am at Beach Access 135, at the southern end of the carpark at the end of North Shore Road Twin Waters and working until mid-morning through the dunes and beach areas to the Maroochy River estuary.

We’d love you to join us in this activity – gloves and rubbish bags will be provided. Please register on the Clean Up Australia Day registration site http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/Beach+Access+135 .

The morning will include a cultural heritage walk and talk provided by local Kabi Kabi Traditional Owners who are joining in the activity.

Looking forward to meeting you!

A reminder that, as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s ‘clean up for the hatchlings’ initiative, Coolum and North Shore Coast Care is hosting a beach cleanup and tree planting at North Marcoola tomorrow Saturday 6 February, at Beach Access 105 (200 metres south of the Marcoola Surf Lifesaving Club and across the road from the cafes). All welcome.

The activity commences at 6.15am with a cleanup along the beach and dunes, so that turtle hatchlings will not be impeded by debris and plastic as they make their way to the ocean. After an hour on the beach, we will be planting on the dunes, to ensure their health and stability.

The activity will conclude with a sausage sizzle in the park opposite the cafes, at 8.15.
