Every year, Healthy Waterways put together a report on the health of rivers and waterways across south-east Queensland. The 2012 Report Card as launched on Wednesday 24 October.
This year, information about the Report Card will be available on the Healthy Waterways website, and on an iPhone app. To find the app, search for ‘2012 Report Card’ in the App Store.
The 2012 Report Card also includes links to local community groups, so that readers can ‘get involved’ with their local catchment and community groups. Coolum District Coast Care Group will be one of the linked groups, via our Facebook page, and our website.
Speakers will include our local State MP, Fiona Simpson, as well as experts on the flora and fauna of the island and its reefs.
For more information about the event, look here.
The event will be held on Saturday 13 October from 2-5pm at Pacific Paradise State School Hall, 12-14 Menzies Drive, Pacific Paradise. All welcome!
Shearwater birds will be travelling down the the coast on their annual migration. Unfortunately, some birds are unable to complete their migration, dying of exhaustion along the way, and washing up on our beaches.
Did you know that some Shearwaters nest on Mudjimba Island every year?
Queensland Parks and Wildlife will be undertaking a leg banding program on shearwaters nesting on Mudjimba Island – for information about the leg banding program, look here.
If you find a shearwater washed up on the beach, and it has a leg band, please retrieve the band if possible, and contact QPWS on 07 5459 6110.
